Kristen McMaster '12

Four years ago, Kristen McMaster was instrumental in helping to start a women’s swimming team at St. Joseph’s College.  Now after four years, McMaster leaves her mark on St. Joseph’s not only as one of its most accomplished swimmers, but also as one of its most successful student leaders.

Over her swimming career at St. Joseph’s, McMaster has set the bar high for future Lady Bears leaving her name atop the record books.  Her time of 1:03.9 in the 100 yard freestyle is over five seconds faster than any other Lady Bear.  McMaster broke the 100 yard breaststroke record in her final meet, taking the gold medal at the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Championships with a time of 1:24.01. She’s also number one in the 50 yard freestyle (28.64) and a part of the fastest 200 yard freestyle relay in school history (2:02.10).

Over her last three seasons, McMaster captured 11 medals at the HVWAC championships including four gold medals, three coming in her senior year.  The three-year team captain also received HVWAC All-Conference Team honors for three straight years.

In addition to her accomplishments in the pool, McMaster has excelled in the classroom, a member of the honors program and was a three-time United States Collegiate Athletic Association National All-Academic team member.

Outside of swimming, McMaster was also very involved in all aspects of student-life at St. Joseph’s College holding numerous leadership positions in various clubs, including Student Government treasurer, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee executive board, freshman orientation leader, and editor-in-chief of the newspaper and yearbook.
