Michael Megafu '16

Michael Megafu completed an outstanding four-year career as one of the most prolific basketball players in in SJC Brooklyn history and truly embodied the moniker student-athlete.

The graduating biology major and chemistry minor became the second CoSIDA Academic All-American in Bears history and the third from SJCNY named a second-team honoree this past March after helping lead the Bears to a runner-up finish in the Skyline Conference in their first season in the league. All while maintaining a 3.83 cumulative grade point average.

Also named to the All-Skyline Conference Second Team, the 6-foot-2 forward averaged 15.8 points a game during his senior campaign and was ranked second in the league with 10.1 rebounds and 12 double-doubles and was third in blocks with 1.8 per game.

Megafu led the Bears to 67 victories and four straight winning seasons and collected numerous accolades along the way. Among his career highlights, the Jamaica, N.Y. native was a two-time United States Collegiate Athletic Association Second-Team All-American, a three-time Association of Division III Independents First-Team All-Independents selection and the first Bear to receive D3Hoops.com All-Atlantic Region honors as a second-team honoree in 2014.

Over his four-year career on the hardwood, Megafu averaged a Bears-record 33.4 minutes a game, accumulating 1,614 points (5th all-time), 1,110 rebounds (2nd all-time), 134 blocks (2nd all-time) and 161 steals (4th all-time). He recorded a double-double in more than half of his 107 games played—starting in all-but-one of them—leading all active Division III men's basketball players in 2015-16 with 58 career double-doubles (2nd all-time).

Off the court, Megafu was also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) executive board, an orientation leader and involved in various student clubs. Earning dean's list honors in every semester at SJC, Megafu plans to use his biology and chemistry background to pursue a successful medical career.
