Men’s Basketball Unable to Snap #2 Yeshiva’s Streak

BROOKLYN, N.Y. —  Playing in their first home game at The Hill Center in 635 days, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team suffered a 94-57 defeat to Yeshiva University on Thursday evening. The No. 2 Maccabees (6-0, 3-0) extended their win streak to 42 games dating back to 2019.

Senior Chris Mikos (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney) led the Bears (0-3, 0-1 Skyline) with 17 points and six rebounds and freshman Chris Williams (Trenton, N.J./Nottingham) chipped in 10 points.

How it Happened

Yeshiva raced out to a 9-1 lead in the opening six minutes before Mikos recorded the first field goal for the Bears with a driving layup at the 13:32 mark. Joe Sheehan (Staten Island, N.Y./Gaynor McCown) followed the next trip down with a tip-in to shrink the deficit to four, 9-5. But the Maccabees pushed the lead back to eight with a three-point play and a triple and continued to distance themselves for a 39-22 lead at intermission.

After scoring just seven points in the first half, preseason All-American Ryan Turell scored 11 straight points for the Macs in span of 1:45 that ballooned the lead to 59-28 with 15:25 to go.

Chris Williams (Trenton, N.J./Nottingham) scored six points and Chris Tracy (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) drained a triple as the Bears assembled a late 9-0 run in the waning minutes.

For the Bears

  • Mikos led nine different Bears to contribute to the box score his 17 points coming by way of 7-of-18 shooting.
  • Williams finished with 10 points (eight coming in the second half) to finish in double figures for the first time in his short collegiate career. He also went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
  • Sheehan added six points and pulled down a team-high nine boards.
