Eleven Student-Athletes Named to 2013 USCAA National All-Academic Team

Raul Urshela and Javier Bosque from men’s volleyball; Victoria LoBosco, Danielle Marino, Teresa Mangan, Krysta Verdone and Patricia Nealon from women’s tennis; and Haley Betancourt, Erin Collins, Jaclyn Montana and Laura Sonnylal from women's swimming were named to the 2013 Non-USCAA Sports National All-Academic Team.

After finishing with a school-record seven wins and second place in the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference, Iqbal Husain and Taso Kostikas have been named to the All-Conference Team while head coach Kristin Wulff has been awarded HVMAC Coach of the Year.

Raul Urshela slammed 24 kills and Martin Torres put away 23 kills, both supassing the Bears single-game record and Iqbal Husain handed out 46 assists, but St. Joseph's (7-14) saw their season and four-game winning streak end with a 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 30-28, 25-23) loss to Sarah Lawrence College in the HVMAC semifinals.

Three Bears recorded double-doubles as the Bears (4-13, 3-3) snapped a five-game losing streak defeating Webb 3-1 (26-24,23-25,25-15,25-12) to finish HVMAC play at .500. Raul Urshela had 15 kills, 10 digs, 10 aces and two blocks. Martin Torres had 12 kills, 16 digs, two aces and two blocks. Taso Kostikas had 10 kills, 10 digs and five aces.

Senior Martin Torres registered a team-high-tying six kills in his final home game but the Bears (3-13) fell in straight sets to Cooper Union on Wednesday. Raul Urshela also put away six kills and had eight digs.
