Softball Drops Both Ends of USCAA Twinbill to Briarcliffe

HOLTSVILLE, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) softball team failed to get their hitting together early and could not hold the lead late as they dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Briarcliffe College, 9-1 in six innings in game one and 8-7 in game two at the PAL Complex Thursday afternoon in Holtsville, N.Y.

The Lady Bears (3-10) had their three-game winning streak snapped by their USCAA rivals Bulldogs (8-6).

In the first game, Lady Bears starter Jackie Perillo (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) could not find the control, allowing eight runs and walking nine batters to take the loss in the circle. The offense came up with just four hits with Kristin Ferrigno (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) knocking in the Lady Bears' lone run in the first game on an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning.

Laura Aribito secured the win for Briarcliffe, allowing one run on four hits while striking out two. Melanie Delgludice knocked in two runs, while five other Bulldogs each drove in a run in the win.

In the nightcap, St. Joseph's jumped out to a lead with the bats coming alive for a four-run second inning highlighted by a Samantha Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis) bases-clearing double.

Up 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Bears couldn't hold off the Bulldogs for the split, Briarcliffe posting four runs for the come-from-behind win.

Emily Mazzaro drove in three runs and finished 2-for-2 to lead Briarcliffe and Delgludice added two more RBI.

Geena Campisi (Howard Beach, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) had a strong game in the nightcap, finishing 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
