Seven Bears Named NFCA DIII Scholar-Athletes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA) released their list of All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2017-2018 academic year last October. Seven St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) student-athletes were tagged with the distinction — Theresa Armano, Paige Csikortos, Madison Erhardt, Gabriella Fielding, Megan Finnerty, Maria Gentile, and Victoria Mahoney.

"I am extremely happy to see so many recognized as NFCA scholar-athletes once again," remarked Head Softball Coach Danielle Fazzolare. "Our ultimate goal as a program is to not only make them great softball players but to make them even better members of society. We push them to excel in the classroom in order to obtain fulfilling careers and become successful individuals."

To earn NFCA Scholar-Athlete distinction, student-athletes must maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher for the academic year. Csikortos, Finnerty, Gentile, and Mahoney also received the honor in 2016-17 with three also maintaining perfect grade-point averages—Csikortos, Finnerty, and Gentile.

In total, 6,280 softball players across seven NFCA membership divisions received the honor. NCAA Division III led the way with 1,600 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2017-18.

"We are very proud to see members of the softball program earn a spot on this list," commented Director of Athletics and Recreation James Lally. "Congratulations to these recipients on this outstanding achievement and thank you for all of the hard work you continuously put in representing the Bears."
