Szerencsits Named Head Athletic Trainer

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) Director of Athletics and Recreation Margaret Alaimo has announced the appointment of Lauren Szerencsits as head athletic trainer, effective last week.

"We are excited to welcome Lauren, to St. Joseph's and the Bears family," remarked Alaimo. "Her diverse experiences as an athletic trainer have prepared her for this role. The welfare and development of our student-athletes is a top priority and Lauren has the personality, skills, and enthusiasm necessary to ensure their well-being."

"St. Joseph's has felt like a close-knit team from the moment I walked into The Hill Center. I knew instantly that it was the right place for me," commented Szerencsits. "I look forward to meeting all the student-athletes in the near future."

Szerencsits returns to Kings County after receiving her Bachelor's and Master's of Science in Athletic Training from Long Island University in Downtown Brooklyn in 2018. Prior to joining the Bears last week, she was the head athletic trainer at Bigfork High School in Kalispell, Montana for the past year. In addition to providing athletic training services to student-athletes, she created and implemented an off-season strength and conditioning program, certified all coaches and administrators in CPR, first aid, and SCAT 5 protocol, and instructed a 10th-grade sports medicine course.

Prior to her stint in the Big Sky state, Szerencsits spent over two years in Texas with the Baylor College of Medicine where she was tasked to plan and market their Sports Performance Symposium as well as developing various programs, protocols, and waivers for the local school district. She also started a sports medicine elective while serving as an athletic trainer at The Awty International School in Houston and was a volunteer trainer for the Houston SaberCats of Major League Rugby.

Szerencsits began working in intercollegiate athletics with student placements at St. Francis Brooklyn, Rice University, and Lehigh University — compiling over 1,800 hours of first-hand experience at the Division I level. Working closely with the Rice football program, Szerencsits played an instrumental role in the Owls' 2017 trip to Australia for their participation in the Sydney College Football Cup against Stanford; preparing training and medical necessities for international travel. She was also an integral member of Lehigh's coverage of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championship as well as the Lehigh Relays.

"I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to work with these student-athletes and help them reach their optimum potential," concluded Szerencsits

She holds active memberships in the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association, and Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association.

A native of Northampton, Pennsylvania, Szerencsits currently resides in Brooklyn.
