January 29, 2011 McQuillan Reaches 1,000 Point Plateau as Lady Bears Remain Undefeated in HVWAC BROOKLYN, NY – The Lady Bears spotted Berkeley College an early 10 point lead, but outscored the Knights 21-3 to close the first half and cruised to an 81-52 Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference triumph on Saturday night in front of a packed house on Alumni, Family and Friends Day.
January 24, 2011 Lady Bears Struggle to Generate Offense, Fall to Dolphins STATEN ISLAND, NY – Both the Lady Bears and the Dolphins had a difficult time finding any offense, but it was Staten Island who was able to generate enough to pull out a 58-50 victory. The two teams combined to shoot just 30.5% from the floor and committed 37 fouls. St. Joseph’s now has lost back-to-back games and fall to 7-12 (1-0 HVWAC) on the year.
January 22, 2011 Lady Bears Fall to USCAA Rivals Apprentice BROOKLYN, NY – In a USCAA battle that pitted two top 15 teams and perennial rivals, the #12 St. Joseph’s College women’s basketball team held a 30-26 advantage at halftime but couldn’t hold off #7 Apprentice School, falling 66-59 on Saturday evening at Brooklyn Technical High School. Sophomore Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) paced the Lady Bears in defeat scoring 14 points and falling one rebound shy of a double-double.
January 20, 2011 Five Lady Bears in Double Figures as St. Joseph’s Defeats Albertus Magnus BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College women’s basketball team led from start to finish, taking down Albertus Magnus, 79-61. The Lady Bears played a complete game in all phases as five girls eclipsed ten points and the team collected a season high 62 rebounds. The last time the Lady Bears surpassed 60 rebounds was January 30th 2007, in a game against New Rochelle. St. Joseph’s also dished out 22 assists and caused 25 Lady Falcon turnovers as each aspect of their game was working.
January 17, 2011 Lady Bears Offense Struggles in Loss to Farmingdale FARMINGDALE, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's basketball team had their worst shooting effort of the season and failed to break the 50 point mark for only the third time this season, falling 77-48 to defending Skyline Conference champions Farmingdale State College.

January 8, 2011 Poor Shooting Plagues Lady Bears in Loss to Mount Saint Vincent RIVERDALE, NY – Renewing a rivalry that lay dormant for two seasons, the St. Joseph's women's basketball team dropped their first contest of 2011, falling 58-53 to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon. Janine Doran (South Ozone Park, NY/Archbishop Molloy) led the Lady Bears posting her second double-double of the season recording team-highs in points (10) and rebounds (11).
January 4, 2011 Lady Bears End Five Game Skid with Offensive Outburst Against NJCU BROOKLYN, NY - After a 2-6 December, the Lady Bears were determined to turn things around in the new year. That quest began with an 84-64 victory over the New Jersey City University (NJCU) Gothic Knights. Junior Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) paced an offense that scored its most points since February 2, 2008 when the Lady Bears put up 86 in victory over New Hampshire Technical Institute. With the win the Lady Bears improve to 5-8 on the year (1-0 HVWAC) and break their season long five game losing streak.

November 19, 2009 2009-10 Women's Basketball Season Preview BROOKLYN, NY - The St. Joseph’s College women’s basketball team looks to return to the successes of its storied past after three straight sub-.500 seasons. Although last year’s season began with a promising 6-4 mark, injuries and eligibility issues stymied the team’s progress and contributed to an unprecedented nine-game slide through the month of January. Once healthy, SJC regained its form, winning five of their final seven games while advancing to the HVWAC championship game before falling to the heavily favored College of St. Elizabeth. With the addition of five newcomers to this year’s team, the Lady Bears hope to build on last year’s strong finish and capture their 4th Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Championship and possibly contend for a 7th appearance at the USCAA National Tournament. With a roster featuring an astounding nine underclassmen, many might consider this to be a potential rebuilding year, however Head Coach Frank P. Carbone, now entering his 13th season at the helm and approaching the 200 win plateau, fully expects the newcomers to make immediate contributions and keep SJC in contention from the opening tip.
November 17, 2009 Lady Bears Defeat Yeshiva in Home Opener BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College women's basketball (1-0, 1-0 HVWAC) extended a four-point lead at half to defeat Yeshiva University (0-2, 0-1 HVWAC), 80-56, in an HVWAC matchup to open the 2009-10 season in front of a packed house at Brooklyn Tech.
March 10, 2009 McQuillan Named AD3I Rookie of the Year, Maddox and Gist Named Second Team All-Independent (KANSAS CITY, MO) Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep), a freshman point guard for the St. Joseph’s College women’s basketball team, was named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) rookie of the year in press releases released by the conference earlier this week naming the 2009 All-Independent Basketball Teams. McQuillan also was named to the second team all-independent. On the men’s side, senior Ervin Maddox (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter’s) and sophomore Justin Gist (Brooklyn, NY/Newsome) were also named to the second team all-independent.
February 15, 2009 St. Elizabeth’s Soars Over Lady Bears in HVWAC Championship BROOKLYN, NY - #3 St. Joseph’s women’s basketball got off to a slow start and was never able to recover, falling to #1 College of St. Elizabeth 68-25 in the championship game of the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Tournament at Pratt Institute. The loss snaps St. Joseph's five-game winning streak and now sit at 11-14 on the season. St. Elizabeth's improves to 19-8.
February 14, 2009 Lady Bears Defeat Albany Pharmacy to Advance to HVWAC Championship BROOKLYN, NY - Senior Melissa Velez (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) scored a game-high 25 points and sank four free throws in the final 0:28 to lead #3 St. Joseph’s to a 64-60 win over #2 Albany College of Pharmacy in the first semifinal of the Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Tournament at Pratt Institute. With the win, the Lady Bears avenged a 36 point loss to the Panthers on the road earlier this season.
February 10, 2009 Velez Nets Career-High 26 in Win Over New Rochelle BROOKLYN, NY - Senior Melissa Velez (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) hit seven 3-pointers to score a career-high 26 points in her final home game as the Lady Bears downed College of New Rochelle 68-27 in a Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference game at Brooklyn Technical High School on Tuesday night. St. Joseph’s extends their winning streak to four and improve to 10-13, 2-2 HVWAC and New Rochelle drops to 2-17, 0-4 HVWAC.
February 3, 2009 Ashley McQuillan Named AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month Freshman point guard for the Lady Bears, Ashley McQuillan(Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) was named Association of Division III Independents Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2008 in a press release from by the Association this week. This is the first time the honor has been bestowed to a St. Joseph's College athlete.
February 2, 2009 Lady Bears Snap Nine Game Skid With Win Over New Jersey City University JERSEY CITY, NJ - St. Joseph’s scored six points in the final 1:58, breaking the sixth tie of the game, and held off New Jersey City University to win 63-60 on Monday night at the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center. The win is the Lady Bears first since December 21, where they defeated Yeshiva University 45-43 in a HVWAC matchup. Allison Kavanagh (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) turned in her third double-double this season leading the Lady Bears with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
January 31, 2009 Women’s Basketball Overpowered by Apprentice BROOKLYN, NY - Joanna Marciniec (Brooklyn, NY/Baruch) turned in her first career double-double in an 84-54 loss to USCAA rival Apprentice School in front of a crowd of over two hundred in the first game of the Family & Friends Appreciation Day Doubleheader at Brooklyn Technical High School on Saturday.
January 24, 2009 Women’s Basketball Drops HVWAC Game to Albany Pharmacy ALBANY, NY - Women’s Basketball was over powered by Albany Pharmacy this past Saturday to drop their seventh straight match. Julia Serewko(Queens, NY / Mary Louis) posted a 12 rebound, 10 point double-double in the 72-36 loss. St. Joseph’s falls to 6-11 and 1-2 in Hudson Valley play while Albany Pharmacy improves to 10-7 and sits atop the conference at 3-0.

January 5, 2009 Keystone College Towers Over Women’s Basketball (LaPLUME, PA) St. Joseph’s College women’s basketball lost their fourth straight game falling short to Keystone College, 70-45 in a non-conference match last night. The Lady Bears drop to 6-8 and Keystone improves to 4-4.
January 3, 2009 Old Westbury Roars Past Shorthanded Lady Bears (BROOKLYN, NY) Playing with only six girls, the St. Joseph’s Women’s Basketball Team lost to the Old Westbury Panthers 87-58 in front of a home crowd at Brooklyn Technical High School on Saturday night. The Lady Bears are currently on a three-game losing streak and drop to 6-7 and Old Westbury improves to 7-3.
December 29, 2008 Lady Bears Fight Back, Fall Short to Dallas in Holiday Classic IRVING, TX - After trailing 33-30 at halftime, St. Joseph’s Women’s Basketball managed to score only 19 second half points, falling to University of Dallas Lady Crusaders 68-49 in the second game of the University of Dallas Holiday Classic.
December 13, 2008 McQuillan Nets 34 as Lady Bears Overcome 16-Point Deficit to Upend Southern Vermont (BROOKLYN, NY) Freshman point guard Ashley McQuillan(Brooklyn, NY / St. Francis Prep) had another career game scoring a game-high 34 points in an 81-73 win over Southern Vermont in the marquee match of the “Holiday Hoops Doubleheader” at Brooklyn Technical High School on Saturday night. McQuillan’s 34 points stands as the second highest individual total by a Lady Bear in a regulation game, only bested by Mary Barry (’03) who scored 44 against Staten Island in 2001. The win improves St. Joseph’s record to 5-4 and Southern Vermont falls to 2-5.
December 8, 2008 Brooklyn College Rolls Past Lady Bears (BROOKLYN, NY) Lady Bears Basketball suffered their worst loss of the season losing 81-49 to Brooklyn College on Monday evening on the road at Roosevelt Gymnasium.
December 5, 2008 Lady Bears Ground Golden Eagles In East vs. West Battle (PATCHOGUE, NY) Freshman Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY / St. Francis Prep) scored a game-high 22 points and freshman Joanna Marciniec(Brooklyn, NY / Baruch) scored five points with 1:43 left to lead St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn to a 58-54 win over St. Joseph’s-LI at the Danzi Athletic Center. This is the first meeting between the two campuses in almost ten years and there was a great turnout by students, alumni and administration from both campuses, the event billed as the “East vs. West Battle.”
December 2, 2008 Ashley McQuillan Receives USCAA & AD3I Player of the Week and HVWAC Rookie of the Week Honors For the week ending November 30, 2008, freshman point guard Ashley McQuillan(Brooklyn, NY / St. Francis Prep) was recognized as Player of the Week for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and Association of Division III Indepenents (AD3I) and Rookie of the Week in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC).
November 30, 2008 McQuillan Drops 33 in Lady Bears Loss To Penn State Berks in Consolation For the second straight game, the Lady Bears spoiled a halftime lead late in a game and wasn’t able to make baskets down the stretch falling to Penn State Berks in the consolation match of the Gallaudet Thanksgiving Tournament. Freshman point guard Ashley McQuillan(Brooklyn, NY / St. Francis Prep) had one of the best offensive displays in several years scoring a game-high 33 points. The last Lady Bear to score 30+ points was Michelle Softy who scored 31 in a 68-64 win over Mount Saint Vincent on Dec. 12, 2005 and not since Mary Barry in 2002 has a Lady Bear scored 33 points in a single game.
November 29, 2008 Lady Bears Lose 75-67 in Opening Round of Gallaudet Thanksgiving Tournament Freshman Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY / St. Francis Prep) scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed seven boards in a 75-67 loss to host Gallaudet University, in the opening round of the Gallaudet Thanksgiving Tournament in Washington, DC.
November 25, 2008 Lady Bears Blow 18-Point Lead, Survive Against Medgar Evers, 60-58 Last week’s HVWAC Rookie of the Week, Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY / St. Francis Prep), hit two free throws with 0:10 remaining giving St. Joseph’s the deciding points in a 60-58 win on Tuesday night over local rival Medgar Evers College at Brooklyn Technical High School.
November 22, 2008 Lady Bears Overcome Slow Start To Down City Tech, 72-55 Freshman guard Ashley McQuillan (Brooklyn, NY / St. Francis Prep) scored a game-high 23 points and junior Julia Serewko(Queens, NY / Mary Louis) added a 12 point, 13 rebound double-double to lead St. Joseph’s to a 72-55 victory over the City Tech Yellow Jackets before a large crowd at Brooklyn Technical High School, the new home for St. Joseph’s College Basketball.
November 19, 2008 Lady Bears Fall to Staten Island St. Joseph’s College Women’s Basketball were overmatched against the College of Staten Island Dolphins, losing 64-90 on Wednesday night in a non-conference game at the CSI Sports and Recreation Center. This is the first loss for the Lady Bears on the season and St. Joseph’s remains winless against the Dolphins in 11 attempts. Staten Island improves their record to 2-1.
November 15, 2008 Women’s Basketball Opens Season With Strong Win Over Fisher Lady Bears Basketball travelled to Boston, MA on Saturday to kick off the 2008-09 campaign and defeated the Fisher College Falcons by a score of 65-48. St. Joseph’s improved to 1-0 and Fisher College fell to 1-2 on the season.
