Bell Appointed Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) Director of Athletics and Recreation Margaret Alaimo has named Katie Bell as assistant director of athletics for compliance and student-athlete services and senior woman administrator, joining the Bears staff earlier this week.

"We are thrilled to welcome Katie to Brooklyn and our Bears family. During our search, it became clear to all involved that she was the right person for this position," commented Alaimo. "Katie's prior experiences, combined with her passion for student-athlete welfare and development, have prepared her well. Our student-athletes and coaches will enjoy working with Katie this coming year and beyond."

At St. Joseph's, Bell will provide oversight for the athletic department's compliance with the NCAA and the Skyline Conference — monitoring recruiting and student-athlete eligibility — and will be a sport administrator for several sports. In addition to being the advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Bell will serve as a resource for the varying life skill and developmental needs of the Bears student-athletes.

"I am extremely excited to be joining the St. Joseph's athletics staff. As a former Division III student-athlete, I am eager to work closely with the coaches and players to help serve the growing student-athlete community here in Brooklyn," remarked Bell. "I know first-hand the tremendous effort, determination, and passion that goes into being a student-athlete, and I hope to support and help give the Bears student-athletes the best experience possible."

A northern California native, Bell comes to Brooklyn after five years working in southern California at her alma mater, Chapman University, where she received her bachelor's degree in Strategic and Corporate Communication in 2017 and a master's in Leadership Development in 2022. In her most recent position as administrative supervisor, which she held for two-and-a-half years, Bell was responsible for the planning and execution of numerous events; including the Chapman football kick-off dinner, the Panthers' Hall of Fame Banquet, and the school's student-athlete awards ceremony. She was a liaison between the athletic department and other university departments and oversaw the hiring and supervision of student workers.

Prior to her role as administrative supervisor, Bell spent nearly three years as the recreation sports manager and sports information assistant. She spearheaded Chapman's recreational, intramural, and club sport activities. Working closely with the sports information director, Bell helped design and edit promotional and marketing materials for all 21 of the Panthers' varsity athletic programs and curated content for the school's athletics website and social media channels.

As a Division III soccer student-athlete, Bell garnered All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Second Team honors as a rookie and suited up 38 times for the Panthers, totaling five goals and eight assists over her four-year career. A member of two postseason teams at Chapman, Bell netted the game-winning penalty in their shootout win over Pomona-Pitzer in the SCIAC semifinal in 2016. She was also a three-time honoree on the league's All-Academic Team in 2015 to 2017.

"I would like to thank the entire Bears family for this incredible opportunity and I look forward to meeting the student-athletes and coaches," concluded Bell.
