Tyler Bay Introduced as Cross Country Head Coach

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Director of Athletics and Recreation Margaret Alaimo has announced the hiring of Tyler Bay as men's and women's cross country head coach at St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn). With a well-rounded foundation in athletics, academics, and professionalism, Bay possesses a wealth of experience to guide the program to success.

"We are excited to welcome Tyler to St Joseph's and our Bears family" stated Alaimo, adding "Tyler's knowledge and passion enabled him to instantly connect with our current and prospective student-athletes. He is a perfect fit for our men's and women's cross country program and we look forward to the future under Tyler's leadership."

"I am thrilled to take on the role of head cross country coach at St. Joseph's University," remarked Bay, adding "My wholehearted thanks are with Mrs. Alaimo and the excellent staff around her for this great opportunity."

A four-year cross country and track and field student-athlete at Queens College, Bay was a member of the 2013 and 2014 East Coast Conference (ECC) Outdoor Track & Field Championship-winning teams; claiming individual titles in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter events in 2013. He also earned ECC first-team praise in each of the two aforementioned outdoor seasons as well as in the 2014 indoor season in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter disciplines.

Away from competition, Bay – who was enrolled in the prestigious Macaulay Honors Program – was a two-time ECC Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earning the distinction in 2014 and 2015. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Studies, graduating summa cum laude. Alongside his major, he pursued minors in business and the liberal arts, and journalism.

Following his undergraduate studies, Bay joined the athletic department at his alma mater as an external relations assistant, where he contributed to the growth of the department from September 2015 to June 2016. His professional experience extends beyond athletics, serving as an editor of sociology, social work, and gender studies at the Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group since 2017.

Bay concluded, "We have a fantastic group of student-athletes already on the team, and along with the rest of the athletic department, I look forward to successes in the classroom and in competition and all the bright moments in between."

A member of both USA Track & Field and the New York Road Runners, Bay resides in Woodhaven, N.Y.
