Giacchi Named Assistant AD for Recreation and Facilities

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) Department of Athletics announced the addition of Joe Giacchi as Assistant Director of Athletics for Recreation and Facilities, effective last week.

Appointed as head women's basketball coach in April, Giacchi joins the senior administrative staff with responsibilities that include overseeing the operational aspects of The Hill Center and the St. Angela turf facility. He will also be in charge of coordinating off-campus field rentals. Giacchi will provide supervision for multiple designated sports and act as the game administrator for most home contests.

"We are excited to have Joe join us in this additional capacity here at St. Joseph's Brooklyn. He brings solid experience with him in event operations, facilities, and equipment management, managing student employees, and in recreation that we will immediately benefit from" remarked Megan Valentine, Director of Athletics and Recreation.

"I am grateful for this opportunity from Ms. Valentine and the hiring committee to join St. Joseph's University, N.Y. as an assistant director of athletics" Giacchi commented. " I'm eager to contribute my passion for collegiate athletics and experience in athletics operations to support our athletes and help drive the athletic department's success. I look forward to collaborating with the incredible team here and making a meaningful impact in the lives of our student-athletes."

Giacchi assumes this position following his tenure as the assistant athletic director for operations at Caldwell University, his alma mater. In this capacity, he assigned site supervision responsibilities for all home contests to event staff, effectively overseeing game day operations. Giacchi held the administrative supervisor role for the men's lacrosse and sprint football teams while serving on committees for the university's Athletic Hall of Fame, golf outing, and matters related to Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL).

Giacchi served as the direct supervisor of the Fitness Center; situated in the George R. Newman Center. In this capacity, he oversaw inventory and equipment management, facilitated the scheduling of facility usage by various University departments, and played a key role in enhancing the branding and overall aesthetics and functionality of Caldwell's facilities.

During his tenure at Caldwell, Giacchi was also on the women's basketball coaching staff as an assistant. His 2017-18 Cougar squad earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament, thanks to a 24-7 record overall and a 16-3 mark in league play. He also had a 12-game stint as acting head coach during the 2021-22 season where he went 7-5.

Giacchi obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Caldwell in 2013 and a Master of Science in Sports Management from West Virginia University in 2020. He and his wife Chelsea reside in Hazlet, N.J.
