Lady Bears Grab Top Honors as Six Named to All-Independent Softball Teams

OVERLAND PARK, KS – For the second time in school history, the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Softball Player of the Year reigns from St. Joseph’s College. Sophomore pitcher Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) was selected for the Association’s top honor after a dominating season in the circle and at the plate. St. Joseph’s also grabbed two more of the special year end accolades with freshman shortstop Millicia Malvasio (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) tabbed Co-Rookie of the Year and Frank P. Carbone named Coach of the Year.

AKRON, OH – Andrea Sideli (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) scored on a walk-off sacrifice fly from Millicia Malvasio (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) in the bottom of the 7th inning to give the #6 St. Joseph’s College softball team a 1-0 victory over #4 Briarcliffe College on Monday afternoon in the third place game of the USCAA National Softball Championships.

AKRON, OH – The St. Joseph’s College softball team carried a two run lead into the sixth inning against #2 seed St. Mary-of-the-Wood, but a seven run frame ended the Lady Bears bid for their first USCAA National Championship, falling 8-2 in the semifinals on Sunday evening at Firestone Stadium.

AKRON, OH – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) announced their 2010 Softball All-American and All-Academic Teams at the awards banquet commencing the 2010 USCAA National Softball Championship. Alyson Chiaramonte and Millicia Malvasio were All-American selections and Lisa Scheer received All-American Honorable Mention. Jackie Marinello and Christina Girardi were named to the All-Academic Team.

BRONXVILLE, NY – Emily Palmieri (Staten Island, NY/St. John's Villa) blasted two grand slams and knocked in nine runs powering the St. Joseph’s College softball team to the 2010 Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference Invitational championship. Palmieri was also named the tournament Most Valuable Player.

The Lady Bears took the opener 5-1 while the Panthers earned the split in the nightcap 5-2.
