In the final Division III Softball statistics released last week, Alyson Chiaramonte finished in the top 10 in three statistical categories highlighted by her 4th place ranking in shutouts. The blast to left center was her second home run of the season and the first to clear the fences at Padavan-Preller Field by any Lady Bear. BROOKLYN, NY – Last week’s HVWAC Rookie of the Week, Caitlyn Kakavas(Queens, NY/St. Agnes) recorded two game-winning RBIs hitting for the cycle over both games leading the St. Joseph’s College softball team to a sweep of USCAA rival Briarcliffe College (17-11). After weather forced the cancellation of day two of play, tournament hosts Gallaudet University selected St. Joseph’s College women’s softball in first place of the 2009 Softball Bison Invitational. The Lady Bears went 2-0 on day one, with a 10-1 victory over host Gallaudet and a 15-2 victory over Lincoln University, both in five innings.

Lady Bears Softball Conclude Tucson Invitational With Two Losses
(TUCSON, AZ) St. Joseph’s College women’s softball wrapped up their appearance in the Tucson Invitational Games with Pomona-Pitzer College 10-1 and St. Mary’s University 10-0. Despite the 1-5 start, this has been the most successful showing by a Lady Bears team in three trips to Tucson. In addition to picking up their first win in Arizona, St. Joseph’s had respectable performances in all their losses, including two losses that went the full seven innings.

(TUCSON, AZ) St. Joseph’s College women’s softball defeated AD3I school Mount Mary College 11-2 to to pick up their first win of the 2009 campaign and their first win three years at the Tucson Invitational Games. Freshman Alyson Chiaramonte(Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) was dominant on the mound, pitching a complete game win, striking out 11. In their first game of the day, the Lady Bears lost 10-2 to University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.
